Math: We’ve been studying geometry in math over the last several weeks. We have learned the rule that in a polygon, the number of sides equals the number of angels. The shape names we have learned are triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, and hexagons. We used several materials such as geoboards and even pasta (like fetuccini to create the straight sides)) to create shapes before practicing drawing shapes using rulers. Second graders studied fractions and learned to identify and represent halves, thirds, and fourths.
Second Step: In Second Step we have begun a new unit on Emotion Management. We have learned that when we have strong feelings, it’s hard for our brain to think. The feeling part of the brain can take over and we can lose control of the thinking part of our brain. We learned that it is important to use self talk and use a stop signal and name your feeling before calming down. So for instance saying “Stop, I feel angry” or “Relax, I feel sad.”
Here are some pictures from our Cozy Reading day before the break!
