Writing: Second grade writers are continuing to work on realistic fiction stories. We have been working on stretching out the details of our stories by creating two clear scenes to our stories. Additionally we’ve worked on building tension in our stories to keep the readers on the edge of their seats.
Math: We have been busy learning all about graphing these past two weeks. We’ve learned about picture graphs, bar graphs, and line plots. Second graders learned how to represent data using all three of these graphs and also worked on asking and answering questions about the data.
Fundations: Second graders are continuing to study open syllable words as well as words with suffixes y, ly, and ty.
Second Step: In Second Step we are working on showing compassion for others, meaning showing others that we care about them and their feelings. Additionally we talked about when a problem happens by accident, it is important to still apologize.
Science: We are LOVING our new science unit all about the properties of materials. We learned about the states of matter of solids and liquids. We learned that solids hold their own shape and liquids change shape based on the container they are in. We further explored the properties of whether something is meltable by melting crayons! We also have begun to study the property of whether something is magnetic.
What is the difference between a solid and a liquid? How was the “Mystery Goo” acting like both a solid and a liquid?
What is your favorite kind of graph to make?
