Writing: Room 120 authors have been busy publishing all week long. We can’t wait to share our stories with you on the 31st!
Math: In math we reviewed two dimensional and three dimensional shapes with a few different games and activities. We have also begun to review two digit addition and subtraction. We will soon begin three digit addition and subtraction. We are also going to continue building subtraction fact fluency. Xtra math or flashcards are a great way to practice fact fluency at home.
Science: Our experiment in science this week was testing to see which materials are the most permeable- humus, sand, or clay. We tested this by adding water droplets to each material and noticing which let the water go through after the fewest drops.
Fundations: Everyone was very successful this week spelling with the vowel pairs ai and ay. We learned that ay can be found at the ends of words and ai is found in the middle of words. It is very helpful to have rules for this spelling pattern!
Second Step: This week we began to talk about ways in which we are different from each other and ways in which we are similar. We began this discussion by reading a book called The Colors of Us. In part of this book, the main character mixes the paint colors white, yellow, red, and black to make paint colors that match the skin tones of her friends. She also described the color of her friends skin tones by connecting to foods that have a similar shade like chocolate cupcakes, coffee, peaches, and honey. To follow up on this read aloud, we did the same painting project and worked hard to make a paint color that matched our own skin tones. Later in the week we read a book called Different, Just like Me and learned about how people may look different or have different abilities from us, but there are also things that we have in common.
