Writing: In writing we are currently writing book nominations as a form of opinion writing. Writers are continuing to use evidence from the text to support their opinion. Some examples of nominations included funniest book, most interesting character, and kindest character.
Math: We have been working hard on subtracting two digit numbers. We’ll continue to review and practice this skill as well as addition.
Social Studies: We read books about different countries and learned about the various regions of those countries. We used Venn Diagrams to make comparisons to Needham. We ended our study of the five themes of geography by creating collages together as a class. We’ll revisit the five themes of geography later in the year with a project called My Little Island.
Fundations: Our new double vowel syllable contains oi and oy. We worked on single syllable words this week as well as words with suffixes.
Second Step: In second step we reviewed calming strategies, particularly using them to get focused on a lesson or on our work. We made a list of five strategies to choose from that can be used during a lesson, at seats, or in line. The list contains: deep breaths, chair push ups, push pulls, arm twists, and positive self talk. Your child should be able to demonstrate all of these strategies to you and maybe could even use them at home too when trying to focus on homework!
Here are some photos from our community service field trip to the Chambers Street Community Center. Everyone had fun making paper bouquets and playing 10’s go fish!
