Writing: In writer’s workshop we have been working on writing book nominations. In order to improve our writing, we worked on adding captivating beginnings and endings. We ended this week by getting ready to publish. We’ll be typing up our nominations next week.
Math: This week we worked on three digit addition. We also learned about making estimates to solve a problem and check our work.
Fundations: We have been working on the d syllable with the long o sound for one more week. Oa, Oe, and Ow make the long o sound.
Science: We have begun to study soil in science. We began the unit by collecting soil samples and observing what is in soil. Soil is different from dirt as it contains a combination of non-living things, living things, and organic matter such as roots, dried leaves, etc...
The science center lead us in a fun activity in which we made vermicomposters!
What did you put into your vermicomposter?
What does it mean to make an estimate? How would you estimate the answer of 334 + 589?
What is an example of a interesting wrap up you used to end your nomination writing?
