In the classroom we had so much fun with our end of the year celebrations. Board games were a big hit and second graders were engaged in games with their classmates showing good sportsmanship and including others.
The weather was perfect for extra recess on Wednesday and on Thursday second graders were very active in our class game of capture the flag! (Mrs. Hedstrom had not run that fast in a very long time and was quite sore the next day!)
Throughout the week we continued to have our daily math lessons and learned all about division. We learned that division, like multiplication, can also be represented through rectangular arrays and we used repeated subtraction to represent division.
We participated in a few other activities throughout the week such as creating a class memory book. Each second grader wrote a page in the book about a favorite part of the year and everyone will get a copy of the book on the last day of school. We also wrote thank you notes to teachers who have worked in our classroom or have helped our class throughout the school year. Second graders were thoughtful in their notes and thought of specific ways to thank these important people.
Finally, we wrote letters to the third grade teachers. Second graders introduced themselves in their letters and also asked questions about third grade. On Monday we'll visit the third grade classrooms and meet all of the third grade teachers.
It's been a wonderful year filled with so much learning, hard work, and of course a lot of fun! I hope you all have a relaxing summer and I look forward to seeing you around Newman in the fall!
