Writing: We continued to work on how-to writing. We ended the week by selecting a favorite story to publish. We began revising by reading our stories and having a partner act out the steps. Here are some examples of partners acting out how-to steps:
Social Studies: We focused on our town and state this week. Some second graders seem to be very confused about places that are inside our state. As you are driving around Massachusetts, it would be helpful for you to point out landmarks or names of towns that are still in our state, but not in Needham. So for example, “We’re driving to Legacy Place right now, that’s not in Needham. It’s in the town of Dedham. Dedham is a town in Massachusetts.”
Fundations: We continued our work with multisyllabic words this week. A favorite activity was Fundations Scattergories. Be sure to ask your child about how to play this game.
Second Step: In Second Step we learned about intentions. We talked about the difference between something done on purpose vs. an accident.

What how-to story did you choose to publish?
What is your favorite place in our state that is not in Needham?
Why is it important to apologize for our actions that hurt someone even if it was an accident?
