Writing/Science: Previously, second grade science writers had been assigned a problem for their experiments. This week they were able to choose between three experiments and collaborated with their writing partners to write the procedure to the experiment of their choice. We ended the week by sharing results with kids who did the same experiment and used this information to write conclusions. Next week kids will write a full lab report independently.
Fundations: This week we learned all about homophones. These are words that sound the same, but are spelled different and have different meanings.
Second Step: In second step we talked about ways that we can get help on work if we need it. We talked about ways to help ourselves before asking a teacher for help. One strategy we focused on is called “reading the room.” This strategy would be used when a child is out of the room and comes back in and “reads the room” to see what materials classmates have and what they are doing. Here is list of our strategies:
What is a homophone? Tell me an example of a homophone.
What survey question did you ask your classmates? What were the results of your survey?
What experiment did you choose to do? What were the results of your experiment?
