Writing: In our poetry writing this week we worked to make our language as specific as possible to improve our poems. We also learned how to write haiku poems, which are three line poems with 5 syllables in the first line, then 7 syllables, then 5 syllables.
Math: We reviewed double digit addition and subtraction this week. We also continued to review concepts of money. We are ready to learn all about three digit addition!
Science: We had so much fun in science this week! We conducted an experiment called a soil shake in which we collected a sample of soil, added water and shook it up. We then observed the soil sample after 2 minutes, 10 minutes, and 24 hours. It was amazing to see how the soil settled into layers. This is an experiment you can try at home too! We also observed earthworm, each second grader had their own earthworm to observe. Here are some photos with our earthworms:
We had a wonderful trip to the Peabody Museum on Monday. We participated in a program called Globetrotters in which second graders helped sort artifacts into different regions of the world based on clues about the artifacts. Here are some photos from the program at the museum.
