Looks like everyone did a great job with reading homework last week. If your child forgot to bring their homework log back to school- I sent home a “work alert” which is a reminder notice for them to bring their work to school on Monday. We practiced math homework this week at school and every one is ready to add this part to our homework routine next week!
Reading: This week was all about writing about reading. We worked in our reading journals to respond to questions such as “Who is the main character?” and “Where does the story take place?” We worked on writing a topic sentence to answer the question and then wrote three details to further develop our responses. This will be something we continue to practice throughout the year.
Writing: Our first writing unit on small moments has officially begun! A highlight of the week was getting our “Tiny Topic” notebooks. Second graders will use these notebooks to record their small moment story ideas.
Math: We continued to build one more math routine this week in the area of problem solving. In second grade, we will be working on solving problems by showing our work in variety of ways including pictures, numbers, and words. The math work that went home this week was all related to our problem solving steps.
Fundations: Our spelling rule this week is bonus letters- these are words that have ff, ll, and ss at the end. We finished up our first grade trick word assessment and we are ready to learn about spelling homework routines next week!
