All next week, we will be practicing homework routines IN SCHOOL. We will begin with reading homework. Kids will practice reading "homework" time at school and will practice recording the title of the book they read on their homework log. Homework will be sent HOME in take home folders on Monday, September 28th. Each week, we will add one new part of homework. After reading, I will introduce math homework, then finally spelling homework. I will practice each additional part of homework with the class for a week at school, which I'm hoping will help students be independent with completing homework once it gets sent home.
Reading: Everyone was SO excited that our class library opened this week! We have been busy filling up book bags with just right books. We are continuing to work on reading the whole time during independent reading.
Math: In math we worked on using two materials: base 10 blocks and dice. We also practiced playing several of the math games in our classroom. In the future, when students finish their math work early, they will be able to play a math game that reinforces math skills.
Science: Second grade scientists began talking about the difference between living and nonliving things and what living things need to survive. We also observed five different trees around our school. We are working on using pictures and words to show our observations in our science notebooks.
Conversation Starters:
What books are in your book bag? How did you decide what to put in your book bag?
