Writing: Much of our work this week in writing was about going back and revising. We reread like detectives looking for correct punctuation. We also used a checklist to mark off all the parts of our story and whether these were things we were “not yet” doing “starting to do” or if “Yes!” we included these things in our stories. Be on the lookout next week for a notice about our first writing celebration that families will be invited to.
Math: We worked on finding how close a number is to ten and used tens to add and subtract numbers. We also learned a new fact practice routine- Xtra Math. Please see the notice that was sent home in your child’s folder today. Everyone will use Xtra Math a few times a week during school and it is optional for kids to do at home as well. Everyone also enjoyed using the website gregtangmath.com and played a few of the games on the site.
Fundations: We continued to work on glued sounds: all, am, an as well as ong, onk, ing, ink, ang, ank, ung, unk.
Science: In science we made our final tree observations and shared our results. We talked about how some experiments did not go as planned, but that this is part of being a scientist and it’s why we always share our results with others. Together we proved that leaves help the plant/tree to get sunlight and air.
Second Step: We talked about how we can look at facial expressions, body language, and think about the situation to determine how someone is feeling. Our first Second Step unit is all about empathy.
Conversation Starters:
What was your favorite math game that you played in the tech center?
What might someone’s face/body look like if they are happy? sad? scared?

Photos: I was able to capture a photo of this cute moment when one student spotted a rainbow and the class rushed over to the window to see it. Also, see below for some pictures from science charades!
