Writing: This week was all about revising and editing. We relied heavily on our writing partners for help this week to work through a checklist to make sure we had all the different components within our small moment stories. We ended the week by learning how to use a dictionary to check for spelling. Everyone looked up two words from their stories in the dictionary.
Math: In math we worked on regrouping, or showing a number with the fewest number of hundreds, tens, and ones. We also continued to work on expanded notation and representing numbers in different ways. During independent math time, second graders are using the website Xtra math to practice their math facts. Don't forget that your child can use Xtra math at home as well. Please let me know if you need the log-in information for this again.
Fundations: Our spelling pattern this week was the suffix "ed". We learned that ed can make three sounds- /t/, /d/, and /id/. Every Monday, second graders participate in Academic Choice during Fundations. I select words for them to practice and they choose how to practice the words. Here are some photos from Academic Choice time this week.
Conversation Starters:
Take a walk with your child around your house or neighborhood.- Can you find a broad leaf? Can you find a needle leaf?
What words did you look up in the dictionary? How did you help your writing partner to look up his/her words?
