Reading: In reading, we began our unit all about tackling tricky words. Our first lesson was about how when we come to a tricky word, we need to try something, we can’t just mumble through the word or skip the word. One strategy we used was looking for words inside of words (compound words). Another strategy we talked about is getting our mouths ready to read a word by sounding out the first few letters.
Writing: We spent this week writing final copies of our stories and getting ready for our celebration. Thanks again to everyone who was able to join us! Here is a photo of the kids right before our writing celebration.
Science: This week we learned about observational sketching. Each second grader chose a leaf to sketch and worked to make a detailed sketch- noticing even the smallest details about the leaf. We have also begun a tree project in which we will each research one tree. We are making posters to show our work.

What is the strategy Mrs. Hedstrom taught you for figuring out how many syllables are in a word?

Why is it important to apologize to someone even if what we have done is an accident?
