Writing: In our persuasive writing work this week we worked on making our reasons to support an opinion detailed and specific. We also worked on revising and editing one persuasive paragraph, which we will be typing up next week.
Math: We wrapped up our measurement unit this week by continuing to focus on meters and centimeters. A final part to this unit was problem solving using measurement. Assessments for this unit will go home next week.
Fundations: Our new syllable type is the open syllable. These are syllables that have a long vowel sound. For example in the word “locate”, “lo” is an open syllable.
Social Studies: This week we learned about the seven continents. Second graders are expected to be able to identify the seven continents on a map. We will practice this skill at school and I will assess this skill after the break. I’ll will send home some extra practice sheets next week if your child needs to practice this outside of school as well. We are beginning a project in the tech center using Google Earth and will be working on this next week as well.
What is the name of our continent? What are the names of all of the continents?
What is your new reading goal?
How can you help a friend if he/she is being bullied?
