Writing: We continued our unit on opinion writing about books. This week we wrote letters with an audience in mind. Kids wrote to each other recommending books and sharing favorite parts of books. We challenged ourselves to keep our writing organized by using a checklist to look over our work.
Math: We have begun working with addition and subtraction and will transition to working with two digit addition next week. This week we reviewed strategies for quickly adding numbers near ten, breaking apart numbers, and also fact families.
Social Studies: This week we talked about two themes of geography. The theme of “Place” looks at the landforms of an area. We also talked about the theme of "movement"- how people, things, and ideas travel. Second graders used creativity to create their own movement inventions!
Fundations: In Fundations we are continuing to learn more double vowel syllables. This week our vowel teams are ea, ee, and ey.
Second Step: In second step we talked about the difference between tattling and reporting. This week we also talked about how classmates can help friends to stand up to bullies.
Conversation Starters:
What is tattling? What is reporting? What is the purpose of each? What can you do if you see a classmate being bullied?
How can you use the number 10 to help you solve 87 + 9? 73 - 8?
