Writing: In writing, we are continuing to work on writing multi-paragraph letters to write about several opinions relating to a book. We also worked to include genre specific vocabulary such as character, plot, setting, etc...
Math: Most of our math work this week was focused on problem solving strategies. This was challenging work, since it required second graders to stop and think carefully about each step of a problem. We also reviewed double digit addition and subtraction almost daily. We ended the week with an assessment.
Fundations: This week we learned about the double vowel syllable oi and oy. There are not too many words with this spelling pattern so this was only a one week unit and we studied both single syllable and multisyllabic words.
Social Studies: We wrapped up our study of the five themes of geography by learning about the theme of regions. Using books about children who live in various countries around the world, second graders worked in groups to compare the regions within a country. Since this was our last theme of geography, we’re ready to wrap up this unit. We began cutting out photos for our class collages and will finish up next week. Any donations of old travel magazines are still greatly appreciated!
