Writing: This week worked on building our writer’s voice by adding introduction and conclusions to our nomination writing. We worked to captivate the reader right from the start and get them interested in reading our nominations.
Math: We worked on problem solving this week with two digit numbers. We worked on comparison problems, missing part problems, and writing our own problem solving questions based on a set of information given. We continued to review double digit addition and subtraction using the cross number puzzle and we will have an assessment next week!
Science: Science is back on our schedule and our final science unit is soil! Second graders explored soil samples and looked for nonliving things, once living things (organic matter), and living things. We discovered things such as rocks, pebbles, grass, leaves, moss, earthworms, and inchworms!
Second Step: In Second Step we discussed the Zones of Regulation. These were taught earlier in the year in connection to the movie “Inside Out”. We discussed how our body feels in each of the zones and how this affects others. Next week we’ll continue our discussion of the zones by thinking of strategies we can use to get into the “green” zone or stay in the “green” zone if we’re already focused and ready to learn. Here is a link to the website on the Zones of Regulation if you are interested in learning more. http://www.zonesofregulation.com/index.html
