Writing: Second graders showed their creativity in writing this week by writing shape poems- poems that take on the shape of the topic being written about. We also had fun writing from different points of view such as writing a poem from the perspective of a basketball or an ice cream cone. Finally, we began using rhyming in our poems.
Math: This week we focused on subtracting three digit numbers. We began by solving problems that do not involve any regrouping. We then worked on solving problems where only the ones needed to be regrouped. Then we challenged ourselves to solve problems where there might be regrouping in both the tens and the ones. We’ll continue to practice these types of problems next week.
Social Studies: In social studies this week we worked on our My Little Island project. We wrote about the land forms on our islands and also the ways that nature is used on our islands. Second graders are enjoying this creative project and can’t wait to share it with you- be on the look-out for a notice about our celebration for this project at the end of the school year!
Fundations: We applied our spelling pattern of ou/ow to multisyllabic words this week.
Second Step: In Second step we learned about taking responsibility for our actions. We discussed how when we do something unkind or hurtful we need to 1. Admit that we did something wrong. 2. Apologize 3. Make amends.
