Writing: We have finished up our island brochures with five sections- one for each of the five themes of geography. We are ready to edit and revise next week and then start typing!
Math: In math we’re continuing to learn about multiplication and division. This week was all about using intersecting lines as a model for multiplication. We also looked at how we can use multiplication to find combinations.
Science: This week we had science three times. We learned about the magnetic field and that magnetic force comes from a magnet’s poles. We also used the law of magnetic attraction in a magnetic car race- see the photos below. We continued to use the idea of opposites attract and like poles repel in a levitating magnet experiment!
Next week, we will begin the discussion about the transition to third grade. We will be taking a tour of the third grade classrooms and we will also sit down with at least one of the third grade teachers to ask some questions!
We ended our service learning project for the year by making thank you cards for the volunteers at the Needham Community Council. Thank you for your support this year with all aspects of our service learning project, especially your donations throughout the year to the food pantry.
Here are some photos of the kids making cards:
What is the law of magnetic attraction?
What is one thing you would like to ask a third grade teacher?
Did you try a new series book this week? What might you want to try next week?
