Math: We are continuing to look at two dimensional shapes and worked this week on dividing shapes into equal parts. In second grade, the goal is to be able to divide a shape into halves, thirds, and fourths.
Fundations: Our next syllable type is the D syllable- this stands for double vowel. Our first d syllable is ai and ay which both make the long a sound. During Academic Choice on Monday, kids made their own word games and played each other’s games too!
I introduced something called the Worry Box to the class this week. This box stays on my desk and is a private place for kids to place notes to me about a worry they have. I will typically read the notes while the class is out at recess and then again at the end of the day. Sometimes I might speak to a child about their worry and help them to solve the problem and other times it’s just something I will keep an eye out for. I discussed how these worries should be problems or worries that kids want me to know are happening and maybe need help solving. We discussed how the worry box is not for big problems that need to be solved immediately since I may not get the chance to read the note until the end of the school day.
