Thanks to the PTC, we had a special visit from storyteller Len Cabral. Here are some photos from his visit:
Math: This week we worked on the skill of money- we worked on showing amounts with the fewest coins. We also learned about dollar and cents notation.
Science: Things got a little messy in science this week! We added water to soil particles to conduct a “streak” test and a “roll” test. We also tested to see which soil particle could hold the most water.
Second Step: In Second Step we have been working on problem solving. We focused on the first step of problem solving which is to “Say the problem”. This is done in a way that does not place blame (which can be tricky to do!). Some examples of saying the problem without blame are “We both need to use the pencil sharpener, but only one person can use it at a time” or “Both of us want to be the line leader”.
Conversation Starters:
What does it mean to write a poem with line breaks?
How would you show 62¢ with the fewest coins? 80¢? 43¢?
What is something you noticed/observed about the soil particles when water was added?
