Writing: Thank you to everyone who came to our writing celebration today. Everyone worked so hard to publish their poems and get their books finished for today (it was a little tricky with all of those snow days!). We’ll be doing a small unit on parts of speech next week. The goal in second grade is for students to understand nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
Here are some pictures of us hard at work publishing!
Social Studies: The past two weeks we learned about the final themes of geography- human/environment interactions and regions. We’ll be starting a new science unit on soil soon and we’ll revisit the themes of geography with a very fun project towards the end of the year called “My Little Island”.
Second Step: We have begun a mini-unit on bullying behavior. We have learned that bullying behavior is when someone is repeatedly mean to someone over and over again. This behavior is intentional. We talked about the steps to stand up to mean behavior and practiced using strong voices with each other to say “Stop it! I don’t like that” We also talked about how to tell a teacher and that this is not tattling- we call this “reporting”. Next week, we will begin to talk about what to do if we see someone else being bullied.
Conversation Starters:
What is an example of bullying behavior that is not physically hurting someone?
What did you learn about in STEAM this week in the technology center?
How could you solve 54 -27? Is there another strategy you could use to solve the same problem?
Dates to Remember:
February 10- Delayed Opening
February 13- send in Valentines to school
February 16-20- February Vacation
We had a fun Pajama Day together this week!
