Writing: In writing, we worked on writing poems from the point of view of an object. For example, writing a poem as if you were a clock and thinking about what the world looks like from that perspective. It was fun to see the creativity that second graders used in these poems! We also worked on rhyming poems this week and learned about couplets as well as poems that have rhyme patterns.
Math: This week was heavily focused on fact families with multiplication and division. We also discussed more in depth what it actually means to divide. One way to think about division is thinking about breaking a number into equal groups. Another way to think about it is there is amount of objects that needs to be shared equally between a certain number of people.
Social Studies: We have been very busy at work on our My Little Island brochure writing. Using their BIG imaginations, second graders thought of all of the features of their island and wrote about their islands in relation to each of five themes of geography. We are ready to type and make island maps next week!
Here are some photos from field day!
What do you think your island map will look like? What important things will you need to include on your island map?
What is your favorite poem you have written? What other ones do you think you might publish next week?
How can you set yourself up to be successful to remember to make predictions while reading?
