Writing: This week we focused on using comparisons in our poetry writing. We used the words like or as to make comparisons. We wrote three different types of poems this week: conversation poems, list poems, and color poems.
Math: This week we learned about three digit addition. We continued to review expanded form with three digit numbers. We also learned how to subtract three digit numbers without regrouping.
Social Studies: We have begun a very fun project called My Little Island. Based on the book by the same name, this project connects to our geography curriculum. Kids create their own island and will design a map and travel brochure related to geography. This week we placed our islands on the map and wrote the “Location” section of our travel brochures.
Fundations: We learned that ou and ow can make the sound “ow”. We practiced this spelling pattern in single syllable words.
Second Step: In Second step we continued work on our problem solving steps. The next step in the process is to come up with solutions. For each solution we need to decide if it is safe and respectful. Once solutions are determined, we can work to pick the best possible solution to solve the problem.
We had so much fun at the Mayrathon on Monday. Here are some photos!
What topics have you written a poem about? Let’s brainstorm other things you could write about next week.
What is the name of your island? Where is it located?
