Reading: A big part of reading workshop this year is sharing ideas with a partner. Everyone was assigned their first reading partner. This is a person who your child sits with during reading lessons and reconnects with at the end of reading. Typically there is a specific topic that kids are discussing with their partners. Partners are a great way to get everyone talking about books and reading!
Writing: This week in writing we worked on adding details to stories. We talked about zooming in on a moment and stretching out the details of one part of our stories. We also worked on adding thoughts and feelings to add different kinds of details.
Math: In math we’re continuing to master sums to 10 and 20. The main focus this week was on comparing sets of numbers with the symbols >, <, and =.
Science: Some new vocabulary words were introduced in science this week- pigment and chlorophyll. We learned all about why leaves change colors and then did another sketch of a tree using colored pencils to show the colors of fall.
Fundations: We worked on words with the /k/ sound and also reviewed digraphs (consonants that make one sound) and blends (two or three consonants next to each other that each make their own sound).
