Writing: Second graders were so excited to begin writing stories this week. We learned about the writing process and that writer’s workshop is a continuous process in which we are coming up with new story ideas, filling out a graphic organizer, and writing our stories. We also worked on sounding out words the best we can and moving on to the rest of our story without getting stuck.
Math: This week’s math work was focused on using the number line. We used number lines for both addition and subtraction. We also worked on adding and subtracting multiples of 10.
Science: In science, second graders were introduced to science notebooks. We went outside to observe using our senses. We worked to record our observations in writing in our notebooks.
Conversation Starters:
What is the five finger rule? Show me how you can use this with a book at home to figure out if it’s just right for you.
When you add, do the jumps on the number line move forward or backwords? What happens in a subtraction problem?
What is your second grade hope and dream?
