Writing: In writing we’ve continued to work on a variety of strategies for writing poems as well as poetry structures. Second graders have written color, shape, and story poems. Shape poems were a favorite type of poem to write. This entire unit we have actually not written any rhyming poems so we spent a few days this week learning about writing couplets and poems with a rhyme pattern.
Math: Second graders continued to practice skills from this unit, with a particular focus on three digit subtraction. We are wrapping up this unit, and an assessment will go home at some point next week.
Fundations : Our current spelling pattern is the D-syllable with a long O sound. We are working on words with oe, oa, and ow.
Science: Second graders are learning more about the particles that make up soil. We explored both wet and dry particles of sand, clay, and humus. Second graders are continuing to work on writing detailed observations in their science notebooks.
